Recruitment of Members

Grants for Departments

The Executive Committee has allocated a total sum of 10,000 to be made available to Departments in order to hold recruitment events for Biochemical Society membership. Each Department may apply for a grant of 100 on a first come first serve basis to organize a suitable event. The precise nature of the event is at the discretion of the Department and could, for example be a social event, a lecture organized on behalf of the Biochemical Society, a prize for a final year project, etc etc. The only requirement is that the occasion should be used as an opportunity to draw the attention of staff and students to the benefits of joining the Biochemical Society. Thereafter, all applications for membership received and accepted from that Department in the following 12 months will attract a payment of 10 per capita.

If your Department wishes to benefit from this initiative, please write or email to:
Glyn Jones
The Biochemical Society
59 Portland Place
London W1B 1QW

Indicating:

  • The name of the Departmental Representative who will be the contact between the Society and the Department.
  • A description of the type of event that it is proposed to hold.
  • An indication of the number of membership folders required for distribution within the Department.

The Department will then be sent a cheque for 100 towards the expenses of the event concerned. Any application forms from the Department should be channelled through the Departmental Representative to Glyn Jones. A record will be made of the number applicants from each Department and a first instalment will be paid out to the Department early in the New Year.
