Education Group:
Workshop on Science Communication for Graduate Students

Workshop programme
Register for this workshop

Public understanding of science is a phrase that has been almost over-used in recent years. Yet, in the shadow of the GM food furore, it is obvious that scientists and the public are still a long way apart. All scientists have a responsibility to be able to explain what they are doing, and why, to non-scientists as well as to their peers. Some of these "non-scientists", after all, influence how public money is handed out

Come to this workshop and learn about the importance of communication, pick up tips from the experts, and find out about how science and communication can be combined into a rewarding career.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME, and lunch on Thursday is free
(places may be limited and you are advised to register early, the deadline for applications and abstracts is 25 June 1999).
However, the workshop is aimed mostly at postgraduate students, and the afternoon session will consist of 10 short student presentations.

Overnight accommodation and lunch on Thursday is being subsidised by the Education Group of the Biochemical Society. However, this subsidy is available in the first instance to second and third year postgraduate students who are prepared to offer an oral communication. The free places will be awarded to all students whose presentations are selected and to other postgraduates on a first-come first-served basis. We will contact those to whom we are not able to offer free accommodation as soon as possible.

Deadline for applications and abstracts: 25 June 1999
