Society Main Meetings

Currently, the Society holds three international scientific meetings per year throughout the UK and Ireland, attracting in total 1,200 delegates. The meetings are based on colloquia proposals submitted to the Society's Meetings Committee, and include presentations by speakers of international standing and young researchers alike.

Guidelines for submitting a proposal
Submit a proposal for a Colloquium at a Society Main Meeting
Annual Symposium

Proposals for colloquia at Biochemical Society Meeting number 679 at the University of Essex, 1-3 July 2003 are still being sought. This meeting will be held over 3 days and Organizers are asked to submit a bid in time for the June 2002 Meetings Committee (deadline 17 May 2002). Colloquia proposals that are accepted will form part of a programme for which full secretariat support and agreed funding will be given.

Biochemical Society meetings are CEPD (Continuing Education and Professional Development) approved by The Royal College of Anaesthetists.

A varied social programme is offered, providing speakers and delegates with the opportunity to mix and network. Meetings often include "Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Student Meetings" which give students a chance to present their work to a critical audience. During the main meeting both full and student members are encouraged to participate by presenting papers through poster display and short oral communications.

The Annual Meeting (from 2004)
From 2004 The Biochemical Society will hold one Annual Meeting and additional Focused Meetings each year. The Annual Meetings will be held in Glasgow at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. Bookmark this page for further information.

The Biochemical Society Poster Prize The Biochemical Society will award 200 for the best student poster displayed at each main meeting and 50 to the runner up. The judges will consider scientific content and presentation when deciding the winner. The only criterion for being considered for the prize is that the presenter is a student member of the Biochemical Society.

In addition to this, since 1994, an award for the best poster presented by a student member has been sponsored by Promega Ltd as part of their UK Young Life Scientist of the Year Award.
