Update of a Core Curriculum for first degrees in Biochemistry

Please let us know your views!

The Biochemical Society would appreciate feedback on an update of a Core Curriculum recommended for first degrees in Biochemistry.

A working party was set up by the Society a few months ago to review and update the Core Curriculum originally proposed in 1996. The working party was keen that the biochemical community should have the opportunity to comment on the draft update before the final form is published in order to give it validity. The Society may use the Core Curriculum at some stage in the future as the basis of a process of Course Recognition.

We have indicated in the text specific recommendations on which we would appreciate you registering approval or disapproval on-line, and there is also space for you to add comments if you wish. We are particularly aware of the problems of different degree structures (four-year MSci, foundation year plus three years, three year plus sandwich year etc) and of part-time study and invite you to point out any anomalies in the draft. You are asked to supply some personal information and we hope that you will feel able to do so; all information will be confidential to members of the working party. The purpose is to learn the views of different sections of the biochemistry community, and if there is any particularly interesting comment for the working party to have the opportunity to follow it up with the originator.

Your comments are valued and will be of great help to the work of the Biochemical Society in this area of education.

Kind regards

John Wrigglesworth
Chair of the Core Curriculum working party
