Call for Nominations

In accordance with Article 27 of the Society's Articles of Association, the President is appointed for an initial term of 3 years renewable for one further year and the Honorary Officers of the Society retire annually but may stand for re-election for up to five years. Six members of Council are elected directly by the membership. The current position regarding these posts in connection with the elections which will take place at the 2003 Annual General Meeting is set out below: -

The present Honorary Treasurer, Ian Trayer, is eligible to stand for re-election until 2007 and has been re-nominated by Council. Professor Ian Trayer, School of Biosciences, the University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 2TT.

The present Honorary Meetings Secretary, Professor R B Beechey, is eligible to stand for re- election until 2005 and has been re-nominated by Council. R B Beechey, Department of Physiology, The University of Liverpool, Liverpool L69 3BX. R B Beechey, BSc (Leeds); PhD (Leeds); FRSC; CChem.

The ordinary members of the Council retiring at the end of 2003 will be Peter Stockley and Talvinder Sihra. Nominations for their successors are invited.

Members are entitled to make nominations for the President and Honorary Officers' posts and for Council Membership. Such nominations should be supported by at least three members of the Society and sent to the Executive Secretary. When nominations are published in The Biochemist, a maximum of five names of individuals supporting a candidate will be published. Apart from nominations by Council, candidates must be nominated by individual members and not by Committees, groups or sections. Nominations should arrive no later than Monday 31st March 2003. In the case of new nominations, as opposed to candidates offering themselves for re-election, biographical details and an indication of the nominee's main interests within the Society will appear in The Biochemist. Nominations should be made on a form obtainable from Alison McWhinnie, Assistant Director, Personnel and Administration and be accompanied by a photograph and personal details not exceeding 500 words. Examples of what has appeared on previous occasions can be found in The Biochemist, August 2002 in the AGM agenda insert. A ballot form for the election of Honorary Officers and Council Members will be issued with The Biochemist in June/July 2003 and must be returned to the Executive Secretary at least 24 hours prior to the 2003 Annual General Meeting. Precise details of time, date and venue for the AGM will be published in The Biochemist in due course.
